A road by any other name…

You know it as County Road 50, but your parents might have called it Old 18-A, or perhaps, the very formal “King’s Highway 18 A.” ¬†Either way, Essex County Road 50 always has been, and remains the southernmost provincial highway ever to exist in Canada.

Indicated by the dark blue line in the map above from 1938-39, our road was provincially maintained from 1930 through until 1979 and is 25.8 km (16 miles long!) Some things never change!
